The hosting structure stands on the site of the former villa of Alfonso of Aragon, Duke of Calabria, son of King Ferdinand I of Aragon and briefly king himself in the 1400s. Several architectural elements of the old villa remain, such as the seaside façade with its colonnade, 16th-century pillars and arches, vaulted ceilings, one of the staircases, and the courtyard.
